Obituary of John Davis Irvin

John D. Irvin better known as “Horatio” and “Jay Bee,” was born on December 31, 1966 to the late Lillian Gertrude Irvin and Elisha Irvin. He departed this life on Dec 14, 2020 at St. Barnabas Medical Center, West Orange, NJ. John D. Irvin was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He was educated at Thomas Jefferson High School. He grew up with his family in Brownsville and was very well known in the neighborhood. He was sharp-witted,vocal, genuine, and a natural born hustler, also known for his go-getter personality. He was a great mentor to his family and close friends and would give you his last. John D. Irvin had a passion for driving, which lead him to pursue a career for fifteen years as a Bus Operator for MTA. He retired in 2015. John D. Irvin met the love of his life Chartarra “Simone” Yelverton in February 2003, whom he adored and cherished. They continued their life-long journey and relocated to East Orange, New Jersey in April 2011. He was a devoted father to his two daughters, Ashanti Garner and Chanell Latifah Anderson. Shortly before he was called home, Chanell blessed John with a beautiful grandchild, Journee Alora Simmons. John D. Irvin, though he is preceded in death by his mother Lillian Gertrude Irvin; father, Elisha Irvin; and sister Sydell Georgette Irvin, he is survived by his loving fiancé, Chartarra Simone Yelverton; children, Ashanti Garner; Chanell Latifah Anderson and Granddaughter, Journee Alora Simmons. He also leaves behind three siblings: sister Deborah Irvin (South Boston, VA), brother Aaron Lloyd (Sarah Lloyd) of Indiana, brother Wayne Irvin (Oneida, New York) a very special life-long friend Joe Magwood, (Brooklyn, NY), close loving cousin Crystal Officer-Mills (Raliegh).
