Obituary of Lee Richard Lane
Please share a memory of Lee to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lee Richard Lane was born in Gary, Indiana on January 23, 1947. He was an only child to the parents of Sara and Plaz Lane. Lee was also known as Richard, Mr. Richard and Dickie. In 1965 Lee graduated from Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana. His fellow classmates voted him “Most Pleasing Personality” for the senior yearbook. He pursued a college education at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. After spending one year at Fisk University, he transferred to Indiana University in Bloomington for two years. During that period, he became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. At some point, Lee later transferred to New York University. In the year 2000 he took up residence in Irvington, New Jersey. In January 2009 he retired from New York City Transit Authority where he worked as an electrician. Lee, who loved Jesus Christ, joined Riverside Church of Manhattan in 2002.
Lee had the honor of giving away his “daughter” Cherise James to Christian Spriggs at their wedding on August 11, 2018. Over the years, Lee taught Cherise how to ride a bicycle, swim, rollerblade and drive a car. One of his favorite past times was spending time with Cherise and Christian. He’d always end each event with “This was nice, let’s do it again.” His hobbies and interests included playing golf, photography, traveling, World War II movies and dining out.
Lee Richard Lane was called from labor to reward on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. He is predeceased by his mother, Sara Lane and his father, Plaz Lane. He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his “daughter” Cherise James Spriggs, “son-in-law” Christian Spriggs, “granddaughter” Mya Ann Spriggs, special cousins Diane Wilson Winston and Brenda Sampson, other relatives, friends and acquaintances. Lee will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
