Obituary of Charlton McGlane Bagot

Charlton McGlane Bagot was born on May 22nd, 1954 to Genelda Regina Bagot and Phillip Harold Bagot in Courtland Village, Guyana. He departed his life on April 11th, 2020 at Newark Beth Israel Hospital. He attended Gibraltar Courtland Government School and Berbice Educational Institute. He taught at Gibraltar Courtland Government School and Port Mourant Community High School. He migrated to the United Kingdom in 1975, where he attended university. Thirteen years later, he migrated to the United States, where he became a resident of Union, New Jersey for 32 years. He was united in marriage with Roslyn Haynes, and to this union Alexi Bagot was born. He later produced a daughter, Chalin Barton. He was employed by The Department of Children and Families as a county service specialist for over 30 years. He retired in December of 2019. He was a member of St. Mathew African Methodist Episcopal Church. Charlton was family-oriented with a selfless and encouraging nature. He was known for his boisterous and infectious laugh. He was an advocate for education, motivating his nieces and nephews to see no limits. His extensive service in social work has affected the lives of many. He had a passion for music and loved to sing. He was a peacemaker with a heart of gold. He was preceded in death by his parents Genelda Regina Bagot and Phillip Harold Bagot, and his two sisters Claudette Lois Davis and Joan Florette King. He is survived by his children Alexi and Chalin, siblings Yvonne Crandon, Peter Davis, Phillip Bagot Jr., Hilton King, Everette Bagot, Jacqueline Liverpool, Vibert Bagot/Eudelene, Leyland Bagot/Myrtle, Verna Bagot, Desnie Coates/Kenneth Coates, Berl Mars/Godfrey Mars, and Vanda Osbourne/Eric Osbourne, and his granddaughter Gabrielle Bagot. Charlton had several nieces and nephews: Kenneth, Della, Andrew, Beverly, Ingram, Marcia, Dexter, Shaundel, Quesi, Marva, Holly, Kevin, Jermaine, Sasha, Shani, Jodeen, and many others. Cousins: Meagan, Lloyd, Jem, Elton, Lawrence, Gail, Odetta, Esther Perciva, Vesta Henry, Shirley Lambert, and many others. In the words of our dear cousin Merlyn Crandon: Earth’s work is done Easter! He’s back to the FATHER. The promise fulfilled, together in his Grace With Macho, Gina, Joan, Lois, and numerous others Singing, dancing, cajoling into eternity Their spirits glad, their praises loud WELCOME TO GLORY!!
