Obituary of Lillian Jackson
Lillian Thurmond Jackson, (nee Epps) was born on March 15, 1933, in Morristown, N.J., where she was raised, educated and later married to her predeceased first husband, Louis Clark Thurmond. She bore two children from this union; son, Zachary Ramsey Thurmond and daughter, Linda Ann Thurmond-Robinson.
They moved from Morristown and eventually settled in East Orange, NJ. Lillian began to shine even brighter, after settling.
She was always a woman who fully enjoyed unconditionally servicing others. She was a gentle and loving Soul, but a giant of a woman in Spirit.
As a young lady, she volunteered for the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association. It was through her thoughtfulness in volunteering, that she would begin to spread her wings to reach unimaginable heights.
Lillian worked for the Veterans Administration, IRS and retired from the United States Post Office. At the Post Office she worked diligently, where she began as a mail clerk and moved on to become an essential person in Human Resources. She also volunteered to lead a women’s group at the Post Office.
After a year at home, Lillian became restless, abandoned retirement, and worked 10 years as a clerk for the Visiting Nurses Association.
In addition to her impeccable work ethic, she also had an entrepreneurial spirit. She was an independent consultant for Avon, Tupperware, and provided income tax services for many years.
Her accomplishments are far too many to cite here, and her numerous certificates and citations, speak to her dedication and commitment. She was so loved and revered. During the years she worked, she was also the glue that held family together. She expressed her love through actions and not just words. Lillian was a genuinely extraordinarily kind mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
Lillian is predeceased by her parents, Wallace Epps and Carrie Epps (nee Ginyard); her second husband, Clarence M. Jackson; sister, Eleanor (Thelma) Nurkett, (nee Epps); and brothers, Horace and Michael Epps.
Lillian was LOVED by many, and leaves to cherish her memory, son Zachary and daughter Linda; her sister, Pat Epps; son in law, Theodore Ward, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends.
We will miss her dearly in the physical. Lillian transitioned peacefully in her sleep. We know that her soul is now resting eternally in peace.
RIP Lovely Lillian.
