Dear Grandma,
Today, I want to take a moment to honor your memory. You had a remarkable mind, sharp and wise, and I’ll never forget the warmth in your eyes when you called me by my name, even after all these years. Mom often told me how you’d always ask about us, keeping us close in your thoughts, and that has meant so much to me. The last I heard, you had gone to glory. Though you’re no longer with us, your beautiful, gentle spirit remains. May you rest in peace, Grandma. You will be missed dearly. Motunrayo Ogundele

Q: What will you never forget about Elder Sophia?
A: Grandma Faniyan will be greatly missed by all of us. She was a very intelligent woman, with an incredible memory. Whenever she saw me from a distance, she would call out and ask, “Mommy Treasure, how are Treasure, Excel, and Blossom?” Even from afar, without glasses, her eyesight was sharp enough to recognize me.
I remember the days we attended Irvington House Fellowship together—that’s where my bond with her began. She was a dedicated and consistent member of the fellowship, always present and deeply involved. During our Bible studies, Mama made insightful contributions and was a blessing to everyone.
I wouldn’t trade these memories for anything. She modeled for me what it truly means to be dedicated to God. Every time I saw her, she had her Bible with her, reading and drawing closer to Him. These memories will stay with me forever.
I thank God for the privilege of knowing you, Grandma. I love and appreciate you deeply. Rest in peace, Grandma Sophia Faniyan.
