Obituary of Anthony W. Ringgold

Anthony W. Ringgold was born on May 23rd,1948; to Wallace and F.Geraldine Ringgold in Harlem Hospital New York. He spent the first few years of his life in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and Luray, Virginia. At the age of five, he was raised in East Elmhurst, NY ,by Aunt and Uncle Lorraine and Walbun Tucker. He attended St. Gabriel’s Elementary School, in East Elmhurst and St. Francis Preparatory High School in Brooklyn.  Upon graduating High School, Anthony enlisted in the United States Army for three years; where he was stationed in Fort Sill, Oklahoma as well as in Schwabish Gmund, Germany.

In August of 1969. He married Jewel. E. Pierce. From that union, God blessed them with two children Adia and Sean Ringgold. They settled in Rockaway Beach, New York to raise their family.

         Tony (as he was affectionately called by his family and friends), had a career mainly focused on his fascination with computer technology that spanned over 35years.  He worked for G.D. Searle, Quotron Systems, The American Stock Exchange, Schick Security Systems, and Reuters- as a computer systems builder, technician, and supervisor.  He also went to Lincoln Technical School to obtain certification in Automotive and Diesel Repair-and worked for Ford Motor Company as an Automotive parts representative. Tony retired as a TSA agent from LaGuardia Airport in 2017.

         Tony was a man of strong faith. A devout Roman Catholic and Parishioner of St. Gabriel’s R.C. Church in East Elmhurst, NY.  He had a well-rounded variety of interests. He was a music enthusiast who loved, jazz, doo-wops, and the music of the Motown era. Tony also was known to be a “Mr. Fix It”; and loved to “MacGuyver” things back into working order –especially when it came to cars and household appliances. He was a lover of visual arts. He particularly loved artwork, jewelry, and music that embraced his Cherokee and Blackfoot Native American Heritage.  He always enthusiastically, and with great joy, played a variety of New York State Lotto Games on a daily basis.   Tony cherished time with his family-Lunch and dinner dates, with his daughter Adia. He shared happy times having Cuban cigars with his sons-Sean, adoptees Warren, George, and Johan. He loved being “PopPop to his granddaughter Skylar and Grandpa to Parker. Tony was always a good listening ear to friends in need of being heard.

         Tony was preceded in death by his brother Lowell Ringgold. He lovingly leaves behind sister V.Patricia Bowens,(Step -“Mom”) Lois Ringgold, sister  Aimee Ringgold, Children Adia Ringgold and Sean Ringgold (Nicole), Grandchildren Skylar a.k.a.”Sky Baby” and Parker, Mother of his children and Dear Friend Jewel Ringgold- as well as host of dear cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
