In Loving Memory of Ruby Lee Walden

Ruby Lee Walden was born on December 4, 1925, in Andalusia, Alabama, to the late Dewey Jackson and Earlene Hazley Jackson. She lived a life marked by strength, resilience, unwavering honesty, and deep devotion to her family, community, and the countless lives she touched.

Ruby was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Livingston Walden; her son, Ronald Livingston Walden; her stepson, Robert Livingston Walden II; her parents; and her siblings, Roscoe Jackson and Bessie Lee Jackson.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted daughter, Valinda Walden-White; her daughter-in-law, Jan Walden; her son-in-law Kieth White,  her beloved grandchildren, Cheron Walden, Janald Walden, Tiffany White, Trevor White, her step-grandchildren, Becky Walden, Ruthie Walden, Eric Walden, and Deric Robinson; her cherished great-grandchildren, Savanna, Sydney, Ethan and seven beloved step-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews,  extended family members, friends, neighbors, former students, and all who were blessed to know her.

Ruby dedicated many years of her life to educating children as a teacher at Madison Avenue Elementary School in Newark, New Jersey. She believed in discipline, education, and helping every child reach their full potential. Her commitment to excellence earned the respect of students, parents, and colleagues alike.

Outside of teaching, Ruby found joy in bowling, fishing, caring for her beloved dog, Mickey, and her pet parakeets, and spending time on the porch of her South 16th Street home in Newark with a Coca-Cola in hand, watching the neighborhood and visiting with family and friends.

A gifted cook, Ruby was known for her delicious blueberry, apple, and lemon key lime pies, along with her famous fried chicken, fish, and pork chops. Her Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings became treasured family traditions, where everyone was welcomed with great food, laughter, and love.

Ruby will always be remembered for her strong will, protective nature, business sense, and honest, unfiltered words. Though firm and steadfast, she possessed an infectious smile, a wonderful sense of humor, and a heart devoted to her family and community. She believed in hard work, integrity, and standing by those she loved.

Ruby Lee Walden leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, faith, and perseverance. She was the heart of her family, a trusted friend, a dedicated teacher, and a cherished member of her community. Though she will be deeply missed, her wisdom, traditions, and love will continue to live on in the lives of those she leaves behind.

Forever loved, always remembered, and never forgotten.
