Obituary for Ester L. Brewer

Ester L. Brewer was born on November 15, 1948, to Mack and Nancy Avery in Stonewall, North Carolina. She peacefully departed this life on February 15, 2026, at Calvary Hospital in Bronx, New York.

Ester was a proud and longtime resident of Woodside Houses for over 50 years. She attended Palamico Central High School, graduating in 1967. With a heart for service and caregiving, she earned her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant in 1970 and later obtained her Echocardiogram Certification in 1982.

Ester was united in marriage to Frezzell Brewer Jr., and their loving union was blessed with two children. She dedicated 37 years of faithful service to the Manhattan VA Hospital, where she worked as a Health Care Technician. Her commitment, compassion, and strong work ethic left a lasting impact on those she served. She retired in 2005 after a long and honorable career.

A devoted woman of faith, Ester was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, where she worshipped and served with dedication.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frezzell Brewer; her parents, Mack and Nancy Avery; her sister, Ernestine Avery; her brother, Ronnie Avery; her uncle, Luke Davis; her mother and father-in-law, Frezzell and Mamie Brewer Sr.; her niece, Amanda Davis; her brother-in-law, Norman Brewer; and her nephew, Charles Avery.

Ester leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter and son-in-law, Valencia and Jason Crisco; her son and daughter-in-law, Frezzell and Samantha Brewer III; her five grandsons, Frezzell R. Brewer, Justin F. Brewer, Michael L. Gunther Jr., Jordon F. Brewer, and Deion A. Shelton; her three surviving siblings and their spouses, Karol and Alvin Badger, Barbara and Howard Linyear, and Alton R. Avery Sr.; and a host of cherished nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Ester’s legacy of love, faith, strength, and service will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
