Please share a memory of Pansy Lee to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Pansy Lee Whack Boyd, the second of six children was born February 12, 1935 in Harleyville, SC

to the late Rev. George Whack, Sr. and Mellie Carn. Her brother, George Whack, Jr. preceded

her in death in August 1972 and her sister, Laura Bell Moorer in March 2009.

Pansy received her education in the Dorchester County Public School system. She pursued her

interest in cosmetology, training in Denmark, SC. After graduation she relocated to Corona, NY

where she was a member of Queens Community Board 3 and the Block Association. Pansy was

self-employed and worked hard to support her family until her retirement in 2013.

Pansy Lee Whack married Joseph Boyd on June 16, 1956. From their union of marriage, which

lasted 61 years, they had two children, Dorinda Sherell Boyd, and Wendy Violet Boyd.

Pansy’s passions were sewing and gardening. She made clothes for her daughters until they

were young adults and for herself throughout her life. Pansy had a natural instinct for landscaping

and cultivated her own garden for over 50 years.

Pansy was a member of the St. Daniel United Methodist Church in Harleyville, SC and at an

early age gave her life to Christ. She and her young family attended Corona Congregational

Church until she became a member of St. Mark A.M.E. Church under the leadership of Reverend

Augustus K. David. She was a member of Stewardess Board #1 and served as president.

Pansy was also a member of the Class Leader Ministry and served as treasurer and Class Leader

of #13.

Pansy leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Joseph Boyd; two daughters: Dorinda Sherell

Boyd and Wendy Violet Boyd; three sisters: Ella Rhett Whack, Golena Simmons, and Fayetta

Washington; a granddaughter, Nicole Alexandria Hardy and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,

other relatives and friends.
